Chapter 3: Infection Control

Understand the chain of infection, the body's immune response, and the critical protocols for maintaining a safe healthcare environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe pathogen characteristics and the chain of infection.
  • Differentiate between humoral and cell-mediated immunity.
  • Explain OSHA standards, including Exposure Control Plans and infectious body fluids.
  • Demonstrate proper hand washing, PPE use, and sanitization/disinfection/sterilization.
  • Apply medical and surgical asepsis concepts.

Chapter 14: Assisting in Dermatology

Gain knowledge on the skin's anatomy, common disorders, and the medical assistant's role in dermatologic care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain skin functions and anatomic structures.
  • Compare various skin lesions, infections, and infestations.
  • Differentiate between benign and malignant neoplasms (including ABCDE rule).
  • Discuss dermatologic exams, allergy testing, and procedures (cryosurgery, etc.).
  • Provide patient education on skin cancer warning signs.
